  1. Where is the place where you can buy the screen. Great tutorial how to change the screen but nowhere can be found when you wanna buy it.

  2. The usb port on my Dell Venue 8 7840 has become loose and will no longer charge. Can anyone give me advice on how to fix this? Can the USB port be purchased somewhere? Can it be easily swapped out or does it have to be de-soldered?

Thanks in advance for any help solving this issue.

        1. HI Another David and Quixas. Quixas, my apologies, I’m only just now seeing the question you posted back in Nov. Unfortunately, I still haven’t found a solution to the faulty USB port. I still have my Venue 8 7840 sitting on my desk, hoping to someday find the answer. Because as of right now, I have a $300 paper weight.

          1. I have the exact same loose USB port problem as everyone else in case someone finds a solution. I can no longer charge the tablet. Looks like a defect in this model.

          2. I have kinda the same problem, except the tech guy says mine needs a new charging ‘ribbon’, the port is fine. Do you know if the ribbon in the 3840 and 7840 Venue 8’s are compatible?

          3. I got my entire unit replaced free of charge, but basically had to threaten Dell with legal action. A known fault breaches the “fit for purpose” requirement of sold items under Australian Law. I pointed this out to Dell, and said I’d report them to Consumer Affairs, and someone in management authorised a “repair”. A couple of weeks later a brand new tablet was delivered.

          4. Well done “Another David”. Happy to hear you sorted it out. I don’t know that we have any such law here in the US. Still hoping someone, someday, adds a post to this page with info on how to order and replace the USB port.
