    1. I would suggest the Crucial M550 M.2 2280. It’s $279 on Amazon or Newegg. I own this and got the 512GB unit. The built in samsung 512GB has a 300-350MB/s write speed. The crucial has a 500+MB/s write speed.

I’m not going to swtich mine out to get an extra 150MB/s, but if a 1TB drive ever shows up I’m going to take the plunge.

Also, a T5 is used to remove the screws on the 2014 Blade 14 right?

  1. Hi I was wondering if you could show me if there is any way of removing the keyboard to replace it with a new one??

    Thanks

    1. the keyboard is arguably the worst part of the computer.
some keys want to be hit several times on occasion.
Worse, the keys are just painted and the paint comes off from typing if you have any fingernails at all. Then you end up with big glowing blotches instead of green letters..

In 20+ years of using computers for work and play, I’ve NEVER had a keyboard that was painted. So miserable…

  2. Hi David, nice guide.

I have a question: do you have the part number for the battery or where I can buy a new one? Thanks

    1. google “razer blade betty battery” and you should find one. They are around $120, which beats the cost of razer’s out of warranty $250+ repair.

  3. I’m not pro on internal laptop parts, can anyone help me?
What is the size of the M.2 SSD? I want to replace my 256SSD to a larger capacity. And does anyone know how can I move all the contents (boot drive) to the new one.

  4. hello, for some reason they far right side of my keyboard stopped working, i think it was from a bang the laptop took a couple of days ago. it mostly works, just the first 2 rows on the far right. is it possible that one of the cables connecting the keyboard to the motherboard is loose? is it 1 cable that connects the keyboard to the motherboard or more than one? thanks!

      1. I tried reinstalling the software. But that didn’t help.

Is it possible that the cable connector to the motherboard is loose?

  5. Can you please give me the mother board make and model. I bricked my Razer Blade and need to get the bios file. If you can share the bios that would be wonderful too.

  6. Very nice and well explained teardown. I do have one question, or problem more like. On my model I have vertical scanlines appearing on the right side of the screen more often than not. They go away for a time if I apply pressure in a certain way to the side and back of the screen. It’s cleary a hardware problem with the screen or cable.

Based on your experience disassemblying this computer. Can you say anything about how realistic a screen, or at least screen cable replacement process would be?

  7. I’ve noticed that the motherboard for the newest iterations of the razer blade 14 has been basically the same, i was wondering if it was possible to take out and upgrade the processor, discrete graphcis, and ram on the motherboard. I understand its soddered on to the motherboard but if i were to use the same parts from a newer iteration of the same laptop, is it possible and if so how?

    1. Hi,
In theory you could exchange the ram modules with bigger ones, but i cant predict how it will perform and if it will work because the Ram modules will obviously differ in minor details.
      For Example:
      Blade 14 2014 uses 32 2GB Samsung 1866 Modules.
If you now go and exchange them with 4GB modules, those models arent availaible in 1866, only in 1600 mhz, leading to possible boot problems.
And the 4GB modules don’t have as many Data Lines as the 2GB modules, and some other pins that aren’t connected in comparison with the 2GB Module.

It can work, but it is risky!

Same Counts for the GPU Ram.

NO WAY that you can exchange the GPU or CPU without knowing all the details from their datasheets.
Have fun getting them from NVIDIA.

      Cheers.

  8. Hey,

My left click is not responsive ( I need to click real hard to make it work) sometimes if i shake the laptop hard enough the left click works for awhile. I am not sure of the cause but how can i access this part of laptop and would ou have an idea of how to fix this?

  9. Hi ,
Can you please tell me where can I find a replacement for the LCD cable?
Do you know if I can swap the 2014 motherboard with a 2015?
    Thank you!

    1. My GPU just took a dump today and I’m parting mine out. Reply if you’re still intrested. Actually parting the whole thing out. If anyone knows how to get the CPU off the board, let me know, I can’t find a guide

  10. How difficult is it to actually replace the keyboard do u just unscrew it from the frame and drop in another one or do u need to replace the entire palm rest and screen hinge

  11. Anyone would be kind enough to advise what is the brand/model of the Charge Controller IC chip? Or better yet refer me to where I can buy a new one as a replacement? Thanks so much in advance.
