Lenovo IdeaPad Yoga 2 11 Disassembly

In the following guide, I will disassemble a Lenovo IdeaPad Yoga 2 11.

Most internal components in this model can be replaced after you remove the top cover assembly. I will remove the battery, hard drive, bottom case, wireless card, speakers, and motherboard. Refer to this guide. You can upgrade and repair your Lenovo Yoga 2 11.

Before taking it apart, make sure the laptop is turned off.

Remove all screws from the bottom case.

Pry up the bottom case and take it away.

Under the bottom case, you can access the battery, hard drive, wireless card, speakers, and motherboard.

Remove six screws securing the battery.
Disconnect the battery power cable from the motherboard. You can remove the battery.

The laptop comes with a 7.4v, 34wh Li-polymer battery.

Remove four screws securing the hard drive module.

Lift up the hard drive module. You can see the SATA cable still connecting to the motherboard.

Lift up the scotch tape and disconnect the cable from the motherboard.

It features a Seagate 500GB 5400 RPM hard drive.

Remove one screw securing the wireless card.
Disconnect two antenna cables. You can remove the wireless card.

Remove all screws securing the speaker modules (left and right).
Disconnect the speaker cables from the motherboard.

In the next step, I will remove the motherboard.

Disconnect the dc power jack cable

Disconnect the LCD cable and remove the screws securing the motherboard.

    and while you’re at it install a new wireless card because it is really terribly bad…

  4. Bought Yoga 2 11 which appears to have a Broadcom wireless card, which is junk; get two bars, disconnects, etc.

    I read where the card MUST be FCC, and that warranty is voided if something messes up. …..

    Amazon sells cards for about $33 bucks.

    Q: What cards are compatible with the Yoga 2 11?
    Q: Where can you find the Lenovo whitelist?
    Q: Are their bios issues or other concerns, or is it just install, load drivers…and finally, get the connections I thought I already paid for when I bought the dang machine!?

  7. After changing the internal DC power jack (it was broken from multiple inserts) my machine still doesn’t want to power on – How can I test the motherboard?

  8. Yoga 2 11 I3 – 4012Y mb 5B20G04871. I spilled wine on kb! Cannot type on kb. Touch pad ok. I can use external microsoft kb for basic data entry. But some weird stuff.

    1. Wine did not help. Is there a kb component that I can replace or does the whole mb have to go?

    2. Your demo looks good. But what do I need to do after reassemble? Do I have to run any sw? Is bios upgrade needed? Do I need to swap any parts from old to new mb?

    3. This Yoga also has a D drive 25Gb. Is this storage for factory restore? I might try it if all else fails. How to I access it?

    I have mostly worked on PCs but I have the tools and the nads to dive in here . But I dont have any experience on the Yoga. Any suggestions will be appreciated!

  11. Hi, this is really great site of laptop support. btw, my Lenovo Yuga 2 11 not turning on. Charging LED always turned on. even without plug-in Adapter. battery remove and inserted & EEPROM has been rewrite but nothing changed. what should i do? would you please help me out?
