This afternoon, Xiaomi has officially launched its full screen smartphones – the Xiaomi Redmi 5 and the Xiaomi Redmi 5 Plus. Xiaomi has claimed that the two products are Redmi’s smartphones with highest appearance. Xiaomi has also claimed on the event that Xiaomi’s shipment in the third quarter reaches 27.6 million units.
The Xiaomi Redmi 5 and the Xiaomi Redmi 5 Plus both adopt full screen with the aspect ratio of 18:9 but keep forehead and chin. The two phones adopt all metal body and three-stage body design on the back. The smartphones come with fingerprint reader on the back. They provide god, rose gold, blue and black four color options.
The Xiaomi Redmi 5 features a 5.7-inch HD+ touchscreen with the resolution of 1,440 pixels by 720 pixels and is powered by Qualcomm Snapdragon 425 processor. The Redmi 5 sports a 3,300mAh battery. While the Xiaomi Redmi 5 Plus features a 5.99-inch FHD touchscreen with the resolution of 2,160 pixels by 1,080 pixels and is powered by Qualcomm Snapdragon 625 processor. The phone sports a 4,000mAh large battery. The Xiaomi Redmi 5 and the Xiaomi Redmi 5 Plus come with a 5MP front shooter for selfies alongside a 12MP rear camera which supports PDAF. They run on MIUI 9.
The Xiaomi Redmi 5 2GB+16GB variant is for CNY 799 (approximately $121), its 3GB+32GB variant is for CNY 899 (approximately $136); the Xiaomi Redmi 5 Plus 3GB+32GB variant is for CNY 999 (approximately $152), its 4GB+64GB variant is for CNY 1,299 (approximately $197). The two phones have started the pre-orders and they will be officially on sale at 10:00am, December 12.
