This afternoon, Xiaomi has officially launched its full-screen smartphones – the Redmi 5 and the Redmi 5 Plus. Xiaomi has claimed that the two products are Redmi’s smartphones with the highest appearance. Xiaomi has also claimed on the event that Xiaomi’s shipment in the third quarter reaches 27.6 million units.
The two phones both adopt full screen with the aspect ratio of 18:9 but keep forehead and chin. With fingerprint reader on the back, the two phones adopt all-metal body and three-stage body design on the back. Besides, they provide gold, rose gold, blue and black four color options to suit consumer’s different taste.
The Redmi 5 features a 5.7-inch HD+ touchscreen with the resolution of 1,440 pixels by 720 pixels, and it is powered by Snapdragon 425. The phone sports a 3,300mAh battery. While the Redmi 5 Plus features a 5.99-inch FHD touchscreen with the resolution of 2,160 pixels by 1,080 pixels, and it is powered by Snapdragon 625. The phone sports a 4,000mAh large battery. The two phones come with a 5MP front shooter for selfies and a 12MP rear camera which supports PDAF. They run on MIUI 9.
The Redmi 5 2GB+16GB variant is for CNY 799 (approximately $121), its 3GB+32GB variant is for CNY 899 (approximately $136); the Redmi 5 Plus 3GB+32GB variant is for CNY 999 (approximately $152), its 4GB+64GB variant is for CNY 1,299 (approximately $197).
The two phones have started the pre-orders, and they will be officially on sale at 10:00 am, December 12.
