On July 10, ThinkPad had released its new business laptop – ThinkPad X1 Carbon 7th Gen 2019. This laptop has won several awards on CES 2019, is called CES 2019 – Best Laptop. Today, we’re going to provide more information about the ThinkPad X1 Carbon Gen 7.

Keyboard

ThinkPad X1 Carbon 7th 2019 supports 4G network and Wi-Fi. Besides, it has four speakers and adopts Dolby Atmos and Dolby Vision.

For those who need to type frequently, the keyboard is quite important for them. ThinkPad X1 Carbon 2019  owns a full-size keyboard. The keyboard offers great tactile feel, so key presses encourage quick, accurate typing. The soft-touch deck enables the user to type for a long time without feeling tired. What’s more, the keyboard supports backlit. In this way, the user will have no difficulty using the laptop under the dim light. And the keyboard adopts the water-resistant design.

It remains a red TrackPoint. The Trackpoint is quick, responsive, and doesn’t require much effort to use.

There is a fingerprint reader on the right side of the touchpad, which guarantees a quick log-in. In addition, it comes with the ThinkShutter physical webcam cover and IR camera. With these, the user doesn’t need to worry about their privacy security.

Appearance

Like other ThinkPad X1 products, the ThinkPad X1 Carbon 2019 has a brief design with a black body and black logo.

The laptop’s weight is 1.09kg, which make the device easy to carry. Besides, its cover has a coating to provide the user good handle feel, and meanwhile, it can guarantee great durability and portability.


ThinkPad X1 Carbon 2019 provides an option with the textured carbon-fiber weaved lid cover, which brings good texture and luxurious visual experience.

The laptop has passed twelve MIL-STD-810G standard tests. Hence, the user can use it under any circumstance.

Screen

The ThinkPad X1 Carbon 7th Gen 2019 features a 14-inch display with a narrow bezel design (only 5mm on the left and right sides). This display with a high screen ratio provides the user with a better visual experience.

It features an HD camera on the top. The ThinkShutter is along with the IR camera, which supports facial recognition; it can better protect user privacy.

As ThinkPad’s flagship, the ThinkPad X1 Carbon 2019 offers a 4K display with the brightness of 500 nits. But the version we tested comes with a 1080p display.

According to the test results on Spider4Elite 4.5.4, the displays sRGB color gamut covers 96%, its AdobeRGB color gamut covers 74%, and its NTSC color gamut covers 71%, and its average Delta E is 1.01. The results show that the display has good performance.



Disassembly

After removing the back cover, we can see the laptop’s internal structure. It has a tidy layout and excellent workmanship like many other top laptops.

The laptop adopts an all-knew heat dissipation system. The fan has a unique shape to guarantee good heat dissipation and low noise. The businessmen can use the laptop in a quiet environment.

It comes with a Western Digital SN720 M.2 SSD with the capacity of 512GB (optional 2TB). This SSD supports NVMe protocol.

The laptop sports a 51Whr battery.

This is the LTE module.

It is important for a business-oriented laptop to provide an abundant port selection. And the ThinkPad X1 Carbon 2019 LTE has done a good job in this aspect. The ports on the left include an HDMI 2.0 port, the headphone/mic port, a USB 3.1 Gen1 port and two Thunderbolt 3 ports (one of them supports charging).

Performance

The ThinkPad X1 Carbon 2019 is powered by all-new eighth-generation Intel i7-8565U. This processor (up to 4.6Ghz), which is based on an enhanced version of the Whiskey Lake microarchitecture, is manufactured on Intel’s 3rd generation enhanced 14nm ++ process. It adopts a quad-core eight-thread design. Its TDP is 15W. On CPU-Z, this processor’s single-core score is 469.3, and its multi-core score is up to 2173.

On Cinebench R15, the chip’s single-core score is 163cb, while its multi-core score is 626cb.

It features an SN720 SSD. We use CrystalDiskMark to test this SSD’s speed. The test results show that its sequential read speed is 3480MB/s, and sequential write speed is 2578MB/s. With such a good SSD, the laptop can handle office work easily.

Battery Life

The laptop houses a 51Whr battery. We tested the battery’s performance on PCMark 8.


According to the pictures above, we can see the laptop can work approximately 8 hours. The device comes with a 65W/10-240 adaptor and supports fast charging. The laptop can get 80% in an hour and get fully charged in two hours.

Besides, it also offers a red mini adaptor.
