Asus A450J Disassembly
In this post, I will explain how to disassemble the Asus A450J to remove the battery, hard drive, DVD drive, RAM, cooling fan, wireless card, speakers, palm rest, and motherboard.
The model number of this laptop is A450J, as indicated on the bottom cover.
Remove all screws from the bottom cover.
Insert a plastic prying tool between the bottom cover and palm rest (do not use metal tools to avoid damaging the bottom cover). Slide the pry tool to gradually loosen the retaining clips on the bottom cover until it is completely detached from the laptop.
Under the bottom cover, you can access the battery, hard drive, CMOS battery, DVD drive, RAM, cooling fan, USB board, and wireless card.
Remove the two screws securing the battery, and then disconnect the battery connector from the motherboard. You can remove the battery.
The battery for the Asus A450J features a slender shape, suggesting it is constructed using 18650 cells.
It features a 14.4V, 3070mAh Li-ion battery. Asus part number is A41-X550E.
Remove the ribbon cable connecting the motherboard and USB board, and remove the two screws securing the hard drive module.
Slide the hard drive module to the left and remove it.
The laptop comes with an HGST 1TB 5400PRM hard drive.
Use your fingernail to gently separate the clips on both sides, and the memory module will pop out automatically.
The Asus A450J comes with a 4GB memory module. It has only one memory slot, so if you need to upgrade the memory, you will have to replace the existing module.
Open the black paper. You can find the wireless card. I believe this black sticker is intended to prevent signal interference.
Remove the screw securing the wireless card.
Disconnect two antenna cables. You can remove the wireless card.

Remove the screw securing the DVD drive.
Pull out the DVD drive.
It comes with a Panasonic UJ8C2 Super Multi Slim DVD writer.
Remove the five screws securing the heat sink.
Unplug the power cable from the motherboard. You can remove the heat sink.
The cooling system of the Asus A450J consists of two heat pipes and a single fan. The cooling fan is OEM by Foxconn.
Remove all screws securing the motherboard and disconnect all cables connected to it. Lift the motherboard from the left side and gently shake it until it fully separates from the laptop.
The processor of the Asus A450J is directly soldered onto the motherboard, so it cannot be upgraded.
