Dell Inspiron 14R 7420 Disassembly
In this guide, I will explain how to disassemble the Dell Inspiron 14R 7420. I will remove the RAM, DVD drive, wireless card, keyboard, palm rest, heat sink, cooling fan, and motherboard.

Remove the screw securing the service cover. Use a prying tool to lift the service cover and remove it.
Under the service cover, you can access the hard drive and RAM.
The Dell Inspiron 14R 7420 comes with two 4GB Samsung RAM modules. This laptop comes with two memory slots, and if you need to upgrade the memory, you will need to replace the existing memory modules.
The laptop comes with a Western Digital 1TB hard drive. It is installed on a bracket, and if you want to change the hard drive, you need to remove it and install it on the new hard drive.
There are five spring latches at the top of the laptop. Insert a flathead screwdriver to unlock the five latches. Then, lift the keyboard from the top with your hands and place it on the palm rest. Finally, disconnect the keyboard ribbon cable from the motherboard.
Disconnect the touchpad cable.
Disconnect the left shortcut cable.
Disconnect the right shortcut cable.
Insert a plastic pry tool between the palm rest and the bottom cover. There are several clips on the palm rest that secure it to the bottom cover. You need to release all the clips to remove the palm rest.
Under the palm rest, you can access the motherboard, speakers, and CPU fan.
Remove the four screws securing the speakers and disconnect the speaker ribbon cable from the motherboard to remove the speaker module.
Disconnect the two antennas and remove the screw securing the wireless network card.
Lift and remove the motherboard. Now, only the heat sink module and CMOS battery remain on the motherboard.
