Compared to the Dimensity 1000+, this chipset scores higher in single-core tests but lower in multi-core tests.

According to Digital Chat Station, this is a new chipset that MediaTek has recently teased. In the teaser post, the company also revealed that the chipset is codenamed MT689X, but did not reveal the last digit.

This chipset will adopt the ARM Cortex-A78 core. The chipset will reach a maximum frequency of 3.0 GHz and will be manufactured by TSMC using a 6nm process.

The blogger also revealed the chipset’s specifications. According to the blogger, the MT6893 chipset will adopt an octa-core architecture, including a 2.8 GHz Cortex-A78 core, three 2.6 GHz Cortex-A78 cores, and four 2.0 GHz Cortex-A55 cores, and will have a Mali-G77 MC9 GPU.

The chipset’s frequency is the same as that of the Exynos 1080, which Samsung released a few days ago. The blogger also mentioned that this chipset may have an overclocked version with a frequency of up to 3.0 GHz.

New Mediatek 6nm Chipset

It is reported that the MT689X should be released before the end of this year. It is likely to be featured in a smartphone product from a Chinese company. The retail price of a mobile phone equipped with this chip could reach CNY 2000.

According to our report, Xiaomi or Redmi may be the first to feature this chipset in their phones. It is worth noting that this blogger previously revealed that MediaTek is preparing two new chipsets codenamed MT6893 and MT6891. Therefore, the chipset currently in operation may not be the same product as the one officially announced by MediaTek.
