Huawei HarmonyOS 2.0 officially released

Today, the 2020 Huawei Developer Conference was held, and Huawei HarmonyOS 2.0 was officially released.

According to Huawei, HarmonyOS 2.0 is the first truly distributed operating system designed for an all-scenario era. The system features an adaptive user experience framework that enables developers to reach tens of millions of new devices quickly. At the same time, by incorporating artificial intelligence technology, applications can instantly gain voice interaction capabilities.

HarmonyOS 2.0 has three basic components: distributed bus, distributed data management, and distributed security. It currently offers over 13,000 APIs, covering Ark Compiler, SDKs, development boards/modules, and other ecosystem resources..

Huawei Consumer Business CEO Richard Yu stated that they will release today the HarmonyOS 2.0 beta for TVs, watches, and cars, while the mobile version will be launched in December. In 2021, Huawei smartphones will fully support HarmonyOS 2.0.

In addition, HarmonyOS will be officially open-sourced, and developers will have access to the emulator, SDK packages, and IDE tools. By the end of 2020, the HarmonyOS beta version for smartphones will be released first to Chinese developers.

In his speech, Richard Yu announced that Huawei will donate code to the China Open Source Foundation and announced the open-source roadmap for the HarmonyOS system: ‘Starting from September 10, HarmonyOS will be open-sourced for devices with 128KB–128MB memory, including large screens, watches, and cars; in April 2021, it will be open to devices with 128MB–4GB memory; after October 2021, it will be open-sourced for all devices above 4GB.’

Wang Chenglu, President of Huawei’s Consumer Business Software Department, stated that HarmonyOS 2.0 has established partnerships with leading manufacturers such as Midea, Joyoung, and Robam, and home appliances equipped with HarmonyOS will be launched soon.
