MediaTek announced it would acquire Intel’s Enpirion power management chip product line-related assets through its subsidiary Richtek. The total transaction amount is estimated to be approximately $85 million. The transaction completion date is tentatively scheduled for the fourth quarter. The actual date will be determined after the relevant legal procedures are completed.
MediaTek stated that after the merger is completed, it will expand its product line and provide integrated, high-frequency, high-efficiency power solutions for FPGAs, SoCs, CPUs, and ASICs. The company will target enterprise-level system applications to help scale its business, enhance operational performance, and strengthen market competitiveness.
According to Intel’s official website, the Intel Enpirion power management module is a DC-DC buck converter. As a high-end solution, it can integrate components required for power management to meet the power supply needs of semiconductor devices such as FPGAs, ASICs, and CPUs.
A power management chip is typically used in battery-powered devices. It is responsible for power conversion, distribution, detection, and other power management functions within the electronic equipment system. It is mainly used to convert the source voltage and current into a power supply for loads such as microprocessors and sensors.
MediaTek has recently been actively expanding its ASIC business and has secured orders from Google to integrate Intel’s Enpirion product line. This will provide a complete solution for its entry into the server market, while also expanding its product line by integrating existing 5G chips.
