On May 14, MediaTek officially announced a new product launch event. The launch event is scheduled to take place at 2:30 PM (UTC+08:00) on May 18. It has been confirmed that MediaTek will launch its new Dimensity 800 series at the upcoming event. The new Dimensity 800 will be a mid-range 5G SoC.
It is also reported that the new Dimensity 800 has already been commercialized, and OPPO is the first brand to use it. The chipset will be used in the upcoming OPPO A92s. According to the introduction, the Dimensity 800 chipset is an octa-core processor having four ARM Cortex-A76 cores at 2GHz and four ARM Cortex-A55 cores at 2GHz. The startup speed is faster, and the performance of multi-threaded operations is improved. The chipset has a Mali-G57 MC4 GPU.
MediaTek will also launch a plus version of Dimensity 800 at this launch event, which will be named Dimensity 800+. It has a higher CPU frequency and more reliable performance.
In addition to the OPPO A92s, Xiaomi will also use this chipset. Recently, Lu Weibing hinted that Redmi would use the MediaTek Dimensity 800 chip. The reports claimed we might see these chipsets in the upcoming Redmi Note 10 series.
Lu Weibing previously hinted that Redmi has a surprise for us this month. The new phone launch will be in May, maybe in late May.
