On August 28, Zeng Xuezhong, President of Xiaomi Group’s Mobile Phone Division, introduced Xiaomi’s third-generation under-display camera technology.
According to Zeng Xuezhong, Xiaomi has never stopped exploring under-screen camera technology. Last year, it realized the evolution from first-generation technology at the laboratory stage to second-generation technology at the displayable stage. Now, Xiaomi has brought a breakthrough in third-generation technology.
Compared to the previous two generations, Xiaomi’s third-generation under-display camera solution delivers significantly improved display quality and selfie performance, bringing under-display camera technology to a mass-production level that truly meets Xiaomi’s standards.
It is reported that Xiaomi’s third-generation under-screen camera uses a new self-developed pixel arrangement that allows the screen to transmit light through the sub-pixel gap area. This means that each pixel unit can still fully retain the display of RGB subpixels without compromising pixel density.
Compared to common solutions on the market, Xiaomi’s third-generation under-display camera doubles the number of pixels both horizontally and vertically, achieving the same brightness, color accuracy, and color gamut performance while maintaining the same pixel density and display precision as the regular display area.
The official emphasized that with a new pixel arrangement scheme, Xiaomi’s third-generation under-display camera has redesigned the pixel drive circuit to improve the light transmittance in the under-display camera area. Combined with Xiaomi’s independently developed camera optimization algorithm, its imaging performance is already close to that of a traditional front camera.
Finally, Xiaomi announced that the third-generation off-screen camera technology will be officially mass-produced next year. This is the perfect solution for under-screen camera technology.
