I’ve bought two units like this one, and both of them have really poor wifi signal… There are many people out there with this issue and i dont feel like acer is doing anything to fix it.
I wonder if i will void warranty if decide to buy a new wifi module and replace it myself?
Thank you in advance!
about this question, you need to contact acer.
Hi David, I’ve read through forum posts either in english or none, and found that people do witness ping spike or weak signal when this model gets hot. So my guess(I know nothing ABT hardware) is that the two connectors for the two wires(black and white since its a 2×2 WiFi card) being right above the two vent affected the reception. I don’t know if this could be the main reason since I’m not a technic personnel but still want to figure out a way to fkinh resolve this nonsense issue, though some say nothing is without a reason. Would you help me on that plz? I want to confirm this first and then figure out a way to stuff the two wires up into the bezel.
I had submitted a ticket about it, here is a quote from Acer:
“Regarding your product’s warranty, you can add hardware on the unit; however, by doing so, if you damage any internal components of the product, this will void the warranty.
We neither recommend nor support upgrading/downgrading hardware/software on the product as it may lead to compatibility issues. If you wish to upgrade/downgrade hardware/software on the product, we request you to contact a local technician for assistance.”
Your wifi may be the defective Atheros AR5bWB222 a/g/n. Acer knew there was a defect from what I gathered from talking to them months ago. This would not keep a connection for more than five minutes. Otherwise laptop perfect. I bought one of those usb wifi adapters but the principal of spending so much had me send the laptop back to amazon for the next generation which came with the Atheros QCA61x4 a/c adapter. Zero problems with this one.
You would void the warranty if you opened the laptop. Guess you’d have to have an Acer tech do it. I know when I had an issue with a Samsung tv they referred me to local techs in the area but I have a feeling with Acer it would require sending it off and being without it for a few weeks.
I was debating opening it up but there weren’t helpful guides like this up yet and I tend to break little 70 cent clips that are impossible to find or something goes wrong when I disassemble my laptops. And this thing is tightly put together, Can’t wait for when I have to clean it. Ugh.
So by following this guide I can upgrade the laptops 1 tb 5400 rpm drive with a 1 tb 7200 rpm drive? Or would that void warranty? Or, would it even work afterwards?
about warranty question, please contact acer
Can you tell me is it possible to take off a single key and swap it with another? I’m getting a german one of these and their keyboard layout is QWERTZ whereas I would ideally have QWERTY, so could I just swap the 2 keys or would it involve sourcing a replacement keyboard seperately?
yes, you can swap it
how do you take off a key safely?
Is it possible to replace the hdd drive and swapping in a sata lll ssd? Like a samsung 850?
I am interested in swapping the 1tb 5400 hdd for a 1tb ssd. Then I want to make it the main drive and have the smaller ssd as the backup. Is this possible on this machine?
yes, you can
Is it possible to upgrade to GTX 860m to a 970/980? I can’t tell in the pictures if it is soldered directly to the board or if it can be pulled and swapped. It’s the only thing giving me pause. I want my games in 4k glory
the GTX860m is soldered on the motherboard, so you can upgrade it
if soldered on board no you can’t.
But, can we desolder it from the motherboard manually ? That is the point.
Super tutorial. I want to replace the HD with the WD Black Dual Drive, which is 1tb 7200 plus 128 SSD. Would this be possible? They are both 2.5″ 9.5mm size.
yes! you can
Hi, would it be possible if you could make a video guide for this? I like that this is in english but it doesn’t hurt to ask right?
I thought that there were 2 different disk for the hard disk in this configuration : one of 1TB HDD and one of 60 GO of SSD.
On the plan i cannot see the SSD, is it incopored to the HDD ? Because I was wondering if i could keep the original SSD for the systeme and change the HDD for an 500 Go SSD, could it be possible ?
(sorry for my bad english !)
The SSD in the Acer Nitro is an M.2 SSD as you can see on the picture so you can keep it and replace the 2.5″ HDD with an SSD of your choice (2.5″ SATA).
If i replacer the HDD by a SSD (1 To, or 512 Go 850 Pro). Can I directly clone the systeme from the disc C:\ on the ssd D:\ (with any software) or should i all reinstall with software given by Samsung ?
I want to change the Atheros network mini card to an INTEL 7260 AC card.
Must it be the 7260NGW (M.2), which looks like the Atheros, or will the 7260HMW (with two screws) also work ?
And will the intel drivers for linux “iwlwifi” work – are there reports of problems ?
A smaller point is if I can change the UHD screen cover to a glossy surface – can I buy such a thing ?
wifi card was dead out of the box, but now functions with ubuntu 16.04. The ATH10k driver was to blame. Wifi remains a touch flaky, I attribute this to faulty hardware connection
It must it be the 7260NGW (M.2)!
I’m considering buying the Acer Aspire V15 Nitro VN7-591G-74LK which does not come with an SSD. It just has a 1TB HDD. Will it be possible for me to buy a 256 GB Samsung SSD and fix it into the laptop, to use alongside the built in 1TB HDD?
Also, will it be possible to move the operating system files into the new SSD to allow faster boot-up?
Install a m.2 form factor M2280 SSD on the spare slot and keep the 1TB. You can then migrate your OS without reinstalling. The form factor for the VN7-591G motherboard is 2280, an image of the removed SSD is shown above and location on the motherboard for reference.
Any hints on how to take the screen bezel off? I’m stuck at the hinge area…
Don’t bother replacing the wifi adapter with an intel 7260/7265 m.2. The problem with this model is either with interference from an internal component or the antenna itself. I’m about to change the antenna sometime during the next several weeks.
Something interesting though – with the keyboard disconnected and moved away the wifi reception is very good!
I’ve read many reports saying that this model suffers from a poor WiFi reception only if you got the Atheros flavor. It might come with a different wireless adapter.
for god’s sake, I was just looking at this model on ncix CA. Dude, its even on sale for $11X0. What kind of symptom does this laptop get? is it periodic ping spike? i heard the wifi problem with Lenovo y50-70 is due to its AC 3160 network card, and some people swapped it out with an AC 7260 and problem remains unsolved(https://communities.intel.com/thread/53294?start=15&tstart=0). I guess 3160 is shity, but 7260 is defective so ive heard??
so ive found this dude at the bottom saying swapping in an intel 7265 is a feasible solution: http://community.acer.com/t5/Notebooks-Netbooks/Acer-v-nitro-vn7-WIFI-issues/m-p/335790#M55719
I changed few things like wifi card, change to SSD disk and add ram memory. The laptop is really cool however the battery is really shitty (maybe due to the 4k screen)
Someone know if i can change it to a more powerfull one?
Hi there, what exactly is the wifi problem with this laptop? is it ping spike or others? what network card have u swapped in instead? does the reception get much stronger after??
You are right, the battery really su***… Anyone knows if you can find a new one out there to replace it?
I installed an M.2 SSD and it didn’t come a screw. Other than stating a reply of “I am screwed.” [I know… pun intended ><]
Does anyone know what screw is needed for this mobo?
Hi guys, i just bought an Acer Aspire VN7 591G but i have a problem. I bought it only With a SSD and i’m trying to put HDD but i need an adaptator to plug in. Indeed, i only have the connector called HDD1 on the motherboard and i need an adaptator to transform it to ne SATA like on picture up. Fan someone tell me where to find this adaptator and tell me the name of this connector HDD1 on the motherboard. Thx a lot guys.
Sorry for my really bad en glose.
my model VN7-791G-79RV
this is my model of notebook i buyed, i wanna know if i can change the ssd for a 1tb sdd or superior, is that possible
I’m looking to upgrade my VN7-791G with an SSD. It did not not come with one. I understand it’s an M.2 interface, but is it MSATA mode or PCIE mode controller? There is a compatibility, speed, and price difference and some retailers will not permit a return of an SSD if I guess wrong.
I’ve been trying to read the Exact Model number of your Lite-On 60GB SSD and match it up on the liteonssd.com site, but the resolution of the picture is too blurry.
Do you know exact model number of that SSD? Maybe you have a higher res picture you could refer to instead of taking the laptop apart again?
It is a SATA III SSD. It is keyed to B+M. It has only the securing screw for a size 2280 M.2 ssd, so a 80mm long SSD.
my model VN7-591G
How can i replace the lcd?
i juz bought this model a week ago, im really disappointed, it has a very weak and poor signal wifi, its really disturbing when im playing any online games
are u using a wireless 2.4Ghz mouse, if so, that interferes with your connection( happened to me2)
could you explain why to upgrade the ram memory could it be a problem?
I have the version with 8gb of ram and only 1tb hdd…now I’m thinking to upgrade the ram and put also the lite ssd for the SO.
Which ram and ssd whould you suggest?
I want to install an ssd. Could you explain where is the correct place for ssd?. I want to use my ssd and my hdd in the same pc. My laptop is Acer Aspire V Nitro VN7-571G.
Thank you for taking the time to do this. Great seeing what the innards of my Nitro look like and seeing what I’m in store for when I eventually need to clean it.
I just bought a ACER VN7-791 which is similar to this one.
There is already a 256 SSD on it, and empty space for an extra disk.
I have a second 256G SSD I want to install, but there is no SATA cable like we can see on the picture above called “Acer Aspire VN7-591G come with WD 1TB hard drive”.
Where can I buy this cable ?
Thanks for your help,
please contact acer to buy it
I have the ACER VN7-791 and I am thinking of replacing the HDD with an SSD. My question is, will SanDisk Ultra II 480GB SATA III 2.5-Inch 7mm Height Solid State Drive (SSD) work on my device? And is there any difference between that SSD and Samsung 850 EVO 500GB 2.5-Inch SATA III Internal SSD?
Hi, I wait a 791 G (to be delivered tomorrow) with 60 go SSD and 1 To HDD.
I just orfered a 250 go 2, 5″ SSD to have a larger SSD system.
Is there an extra 2,5 ” slot where to plug it or only the M2 slot?
Thanks in advance for your quick reply, so I ‘m able to cancel 2.5 SSD order if not compatible.
there is no slot for 2.5″ SSD, but you can replace the HDD by your 2.5″ SSD
Thanks. I would like to keep 1to HDD for file storage. Is it possible to replace dvd rom unit by 2.5 SSD without caddy adapter? (just plugging it and sticking it with double sided tape) ?
are you sure your VN7-591G have a dvd drive? as i know, the laptop without dvd drive
Yes it have
you can buy a 2ND HDD CADDY, replace the dvd drive by your 2.5″ SSD
Has anyone replaced the thermal paste with something better? I was considering putting some new paste on to see if I can Temps a little lower.
I just redid mine with artic silver 5 and the results were drastic! The temperatures dropped between 5-10 degrees Celsius under load immediately. I highly recommend it!
Is it possible to upgrade processor?Or maybe processor is welded to motherboard?
yes! the processor is welded on the motherboard, so it is cannot upgraded.
I have one laptop like this one but I only have a 256Gb SSD in it.
SOr for mutliple reasons, I want to add a HDD on it. The problem is that my laptop doesn’t have the adaptator between Motherboard and Sata for HDD.
Can you plz tell me where I can buy this piece.
For more information, plz reply on this post.
Have a nice day.
P.S. : sry for my bad english, I’m from Belgium.
can you please give me modelname of that Hard Drive Connector on pic, need that connector to add new hdd on my acer vn7-592g
I really appreciate this guide, since our VN7 owner uses it for school and cannot be without it for several weeks to get parts replaced. (No between semesters breaks for the foreseeable future.) However, I am stupid and cannot figure out how to replace the screen. Is there information somewhere about how to get the top of the laptop apart so the screen can be replaced? Thank you.
I don’t know if I can post an actual link or web site here, so just do an internet search for “aspire v15 nitro black replace screen” without the quotes – one of the top results should be a video of the process on a very popular video-posting website :). I just did the same thing a few minutes ago because I might have to replace my screen. It actually looks like a very simple process – much easier than I was imagining.
Hy, My VN7-571G-50VG do not coming dvd rom,but have the black bezel, it is possible to add?
Do you mean add a 2.5″ SSD? from the teardwon picture, the laptop without dvd bay, so you can not add it.
not, a DVD drive, because the housing have a black cover “different texture” presumable to be remove, other model comes with DVD, other not like mine.
I am thinking about buying a similar model, the VN-7 791G, but it has a AZERTY keyboard. (Price is less than half of a QWERTY if you wonder why i would buy this one.) I can not find the QWERTY keyboard for this specific model, but maybe I’m even better off just swapping the keys? Does anyone know if that’s possible?
A few months ago I upgraded from HDD to a second SSD and more RAM and the guide helped me a lot with that.
Now I got a problem and I hope you could help me out.
I need to replace the cooling unit (fans and heat pipe), because of one broken bearing which is extreme noisy when the fans are turning up.
So i bought a new unit and started disassembling as usual without thinking of the 2 WiFi antennas located one on each fan.
Can I remove and put them on the new fans, or are they soldered?
I’m looking to upgrade my HDD. because i only 256 SSD . May i know how to upgrade HDD. I want to upgrade it to 1TB. can you suggest me the suitable HDD.
Hi, I want to ask after I removed the palmrest. How do I replace the keyboard?
Remove the metal plate you can get access the keyboard.
But the metal plate has no screw on it. Once removed, can’t fix the metal plate back?
Hi guys , my motherboard is dead and they demand 1000$ for replace… what should i do guys i am really desperate…
Hi, you should be repair your motherboard not replace your motherboard, repair motherboard will very cheap.
Is there a way to fix the corner of the screen case if the corner is bent. not the screen itself, but the metal around it.
ive already sent it in once, i dont want to do it again
I have had this laptop for about 5 years now and one of the fans is rattling loud enough to be picked up on Zoom calls. It seems I will need to reapply thermal paste to the CPU and GPU if I replace the fans (not sure which is causing the rattle so will plan to replace both). Any recommendations on a type, brand of thermal paste?
To replace the cooling fans do I need to remove the heat sink from the GPU and CPU? Would it make more sense to replace the entire heat sink since it looks like you can buy the fans alone or the fans assembled with the heat sink.

I had a college friend upgrade my HDD to an SSD. I wasn’t worried at the time so I told him not to hook up the microphone or camera. now with covid, I need to use them for zoom. where do they plug in on the mobo, because I believe that he just didn’t connect em. my device manager doesn’t show anything and I had tried to download a driver and a message popped up saying there wasn’t a camera found.
I have an acer aspire v15 nitro vn7-571g-719d
