  1. Just got my Y700 and this helped out a lot. The worst part about the laptop was that I only ordered one that had the M.2 SSD and not a standard ssd. I need the HD flex cable and can’t find one anywhere. Lenovo also stated they couldn’t sell one.

    Disappointed because I can’t add a HD.

      1. Did you find where you can purchase the HDD cable?

I want to add a M.2 SSD for OS and rendering software while keeping my HDD for media content. Will the Samsung 850 EVO 250 GB work? If not, could you suggest one that would, please? Thanks!

  2. I recently bought a Y700-15ISK Model 80NW i7 6700hq, GTX 960M 8gb ram (16gb expan.) and 1TB HDD. I want to add 128gb for OS and other stuff that i used while keeping my HDD for media content.

  3. Dang so i just bought this laptop for Christmas and right out the box it slipped and fell on a marble stone floor. :/ After i powered it on it works perfect but what happens is that the screen bezel became loose from the top left corner and litery has a gap. The rubberry thing that closes the bezle is coming off and i guess it causes light leak around that corner. Its not extremely noticeable but i guess im bummed out about the whole situation and especially that bestbuy wouldn’t replace it because i cause physical damage to it. Is there any way to fix this? It seems like back and front parts of the bezel wont lock back together so there is a small gap as thin as a quarter. ARGHH!

  4. After laying the cover down, couple hours later, it would not wake from sleep mode. The power button was still lit and did a hard reset. The “Lenovo” graphic displayed for a couple of seconds and the screen remained black. I pushed the “NOVO” button on the left side to try and enter the boot menu, and was not given anything but the black screen. Is the graphics card faulty?

  5. I sent in the Laptop and found out it was the “Motherboard!” Awww!!!

  6. I just purchased a Lenovo Y700 14-ISK model laptop with the i7-6700HQ processor. I would like to add an M.2 SSD, and was wondering if the M.2 connector on this laptop supports PCIe or only SATA? The parts list shows that the samsung PM871 M.2 SSD is compatible but does not mention Samsung PM951 that uses PCIe 3 lanes as listed in the Lenovo Y700 15-ISK. Anybody have any info, or suggestions?

  7. Does anyone know if the model with the AC 3165 can be upgraded to the AC 8260 wifi by putting in the 8260 card later? Basically I’m wondering if AC 3165 has both antennas already to make use of the 2×2 card or do I have to put in the second antenna?

  8. Graphics card how to go about upgrading gtx960m? Some people say it cant be done. Can it? It would be nice to run vr.

  10. Thanks a lot for this article, David !
I have an ideapad Y700-15ISK which has fallen and hit the floor on a corner of the display lid. The glass is now cracked in that corner and I want the glass cover panel to be replaced. Is it possible to order that sole part (without the LCD panel, as it is still working fine) ? I could not find it as a separate part on medion.com/lenovoserviceshop and what I found on e-Bay was only the full front panel + LCD assembly.
    Thanks for your advice !

This have 8GB ram. And this have not ssd.
    Can i add a m.2 ssd and a 8GB ram module?
if yes, what brand of ssd and ram?

  13. You missed two of the screws, at the back, top of your picture. I was putting a lot of stress on it until I watched a video that showed removing those screws. The seam between those and the rest of the bottom plate fooled me.

Similarly, you missed a screw for the battery, top-left in your picture. That one was easier to see, of course
